(Boy, I nailed that one). 3) Dumbledore would return to provide advice via his portrait (only I thought the advice would be to Harry, not Snape!)4) Snape took the unforgivable vow with Lily to protect Harry (but James didn't know about it, though Dumbledore was the bonder which is why he knew to trust him)5) Harry would sacrifice himself to save others6) The gryffindor sword was a horcrux, and/or the trophy given to Tom Riddle for special services to the school was one. In either event, I knew one was a Hogwarts.7) Ron and Hermione would finally get together One (or more) of the Weasley sons would die (I feared it might be Ron)9) Voldemort would be defeated (ok, so this one was a no-brainer! -Tracia

Yeah, I agree with you. I think the length would have been a conrastint. I would have loved to see more about Snape, esp after a whole book dedicated to him just a chapter in this book left me feeling very sad for snape's life. That one sentence Harry says to his son about snape made me feel a whole lot better. So nice to see your post on The Casual Vacancy with your existential tgtohhus. After having finished the novel this is what I feel: this is a somewhat old-fashioned good novel. I say old-fashioned because it isn't a modernist novel like those from late twentieth century. In terms of structure, content & narrative this novel is more like those of ninetieth century & and early twentieth century. And in that case this novel has nothing remarkable to offer. Even in case of you, if it was not from JK Rowling's pen you wouldn't have picked it up. The truth is: hundreds of much better novels are being published worldwide but due to general reader's poor taste aren't getting mainstream success. The Casual Vacancy is by no means badly written, but not a great novel too! Anyway, thanks for your thorough post. Do post on your blog often.
